If you've been around the gym lately (and I certainly hope you have), you might've noticed something new. Or someone new, I should say. For those of you who don't know, there’s a new personal trainer hanging around Paramount Personal Training. So, without further ado, let me introduce you to Kim Weston. Kim brings with her quite a bit of experience, so I’m confident she'll get you stronger, leaner, and limber-er. She holds StrongFirst Lifter and Girya (kettlebell) certifications as well as levels 1 and 2 of her Functional Movement Systems certifications. In addition, she’s studied Original Strength, pre & post-natal fitness, Animal Flow, and Neurokinetic Therapy. I’m thrilled to have her and her expertise on board, and I hope you are too. To get you better acquainted, I had a little Q&A with her.
What can we expect to find on your workout playlist?
Oh, so much Mike Doughty. I like chill music. It keeps me breathing.
Speaking of music, how do you feel about Zayn leaving One Direction?
Why? Did he make a U-turn?
But seriously, what can people expect from an hour working out with you?
An educational experience. I like to think of my sessions as bundles of fun with little flecks of "The More You Know" sprinkled in for good measure. Think of it like the Missy Elliot to Katy Perry ratio at the Super Bowl.
Tell me one non workout-related thing about you that most people wouldn't know.
I still have stuffed animals.
If you had to choose, would you rather be Hanz or Franz?
Franz. He still has a career...I think.
Do you have any creative pursuits outside of the gym?
I like to knit, cook, paint rooms, and read Shakespeare. I also used to do stage combat and low-flying trapeze, one of which I'd like to start up again soon.
What's your favorite Chicago neighborhood?
Well, I still get lost going everywhere! Sooooo, I'm pretty impressed with all over.
Have you found any hidden gems in the city?
There's a great spot on the beach super far north, almost to the end of the Lakeshore bike path. It's between two trees. That's your only clue. It’ll be marked by my butt parked there reading a book this summer.
What made you start personal training?
I was starting a running group and was super into "working out" (read: doing random things at the gym), so a friend recommended applying to a corporate gym. I met a bunch of really cool, smart people and saw that there was A LOT to learn and it could be a respectable career. So I did.
So what’s your favorite exercise in the gym?
Barbell squats or kettlebell complexes.
Ok, how about your least favorite thing to do in the gym?
Anything jumpy or bouncy. This girl don't bounce.
Finally, cats or dogs?
I have a cat. I would also like a dog. And a chinchilla.
I want a fluffy brigade right Meow!
Now, with all that said, if you haven't done so already, I encourage you to welcome Kim to the team. All of us at Paramount are glad to have her.
